HISTORY OF BREEDS PAKPILONES
These photos and descriptions are designed to help you decide on the choice of color when purchasing a Papillon puppy. Having studied the exact names of colors, you will know what and how to ask the breeder.
Keep in mind that a papillon puppy can drastically change its color by six months, and minor color changes sometimes occur later.

The table of colors of papilions given below is detailed enough and evident. But here we must take into account the fact that it was compiled by an American breeder. All presented colors are present, but in Russia and Ukraine they are guided by the FCI (International Kennel Federation) standard, and the standard allows only some colors in the Papillon breed.
Let's look at those colors that are acceptable by the standard - it is a tricolor (tricolor), sable and bicolor colors: black and white and red and white.
Here it should be remembered that all colors are valid on the prevailing white background.
So, bicolor colors do not cause controversy and are perceived correctly even by amateurs.
White-sable color can have a lot of color variations - from light yellow, bright red, to dark, the so-called "mahogany".
Sable hair is colored in at least two colors - red from the base and ends in dark or black color - hence the name of the color - sable. The most pronounced "sableness" on the ears: red paint on the ear canvas ends with a black "edging" of the fringe.
The most controversial color in the breed is the tricolor. It is often difficult even for an experienced dog handler to determine what color the dog is in front of him.
Consider some options.
Pronounced tricolor.
Three such colors on the body have black spots or a spot (the body of the dog may be pure white), at the anus (if the black spot goes under the tail) a bright reddish (or yellow) spot is usually seen (a clear sign of tricolor). The head of such a papillon has clearly traced burns (cheeks and eyebrows). If the dog has a specks, then on the upper part of the forearm we see black specks, and below - a red color.
Often there are dogs with the color of "minimal or blackened" tricolor. In this color, scorch marks on the head are almost invisible, but if you hold your finger against the coat in the area of the head where the burns are to be present, you will see a light coat at the base, not always red, sometimes gray or brown.
Often there are dogs with color, called among dog handlers "hound tricolor." This color is characterized by the fact that the head of the dog looks like a sable (in various variations), and the spots or spots on the body are black. In the pedigree documents such color will be called uniquely "tricolor". But such a variation can lead to an error in the definition of color. if the dog's head is sable-colored, and the body does not have black markings, i.e. the body is pure white, then the color is likely to be written in the documents "white-sable", while this ginetically is a tricolor dog.
And in the conclusion - Papillons, even in colors, are individual and unique, it is almost impossible to find two absolutely equally painted dogs. By this they are good, everyone can pick up a puppy for himself and he will be the only one - unique.
It is also important to note that none of the standard colors is preferred at exhibitions.
Only an expert decides who he likes best for today!
R.S. It did not consider such colors as liver (brown), lemon (strongly lightened red), blue. These colors are not recognized by the FCI standard and therefore cannot be cultivated in Russia and Ukraine.
